THE WHITE LOTUS ISLAND EVERYONE WANTS TO VISIT

Koh Samui has always been one of Thailand’s most beautiful luxury islands, but now it has entered a new global era.

Thanks to season three of The White Lotus, filmed across Thailand with Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui as the main luxury resort backdrop, the island has become a true bucket-list destination for high-end travellers. The White Lotus effect has well and truly arrived, bringing a new wave of attention to Samui’s private villas, jungle-fringed beaches, beach clubs and cinematic coastal views.

This is the Thailand of barefoot luxury. Think palm-lined beaches, hillside pool villas, warm island service, sunset cocktails and long, slow days by the Gulf of Thailand.

WHERE TO STAY IN KOH SAMUI

Chaweng

Lively, Social and Best for Nightlife

Chaweng is Koh Samui’s most famous beach area. It has the island’s liveliest energy, with beach clubs, restaurants, bars, shopping and nightlife all close together.

Best for travellers who want atmosphere, convenience and a more social holiday.

Lamai

Relaxed, Scenic and Slightly More Grown-Up

Lamai is still lively, but it feels more relaxed than Chaweng. The beach is beautiful, the pace is slower and the atmosphere suits couples who want restaurants and bars without being in the middle of the party scene.

Best for relaxed beach days, couples and first-time visitors wanting balance.

Bophut and Fisherman’s Village

Boutique, Walkable and Charming

Bophut is one of Samui’s most stylish areas, known for Fisherman’s Village, beachfront restaurants, boutique shopping and night markets.

Best for travellers who like charm, dining and easy evening strolls.

Choeng Mon

Calm, Polished and Family-Friendly

Choeng Mon has a quieter, more refined beach feel. It is close to the airport and many luxury resorts, but still feels peaceful.

Best for couples, families and travellers seeking a softer luxury escape.

Mae Nam

Quiet, Tropical and Low-Key

Mae Nam is more peaceful and less developed. It has long beaches, beautiful views and a slower rhythm.

Best for travellers wanting privacy and a more local island feel.

Taling Ngam

Remote, Romantic and Sunset-Focused

Taling Ngam is one of the most exclusive and secluded areas of Koh Samui. It is known for sunset views, private villas and a more dramatic coastline.

Best for honeymoons, privacy and luxury travellers who want to fully switch off.

Travel Tips for Luxury Travellers visiting Koh Samui

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Koh Samui is generally from December to April, when the weather is drier and the island is at its most appealing.

Book Early for White Lotus Season

With the White Lotus effect now driving global interest, luxury hotels, especially Four Seasons, are likely to book out earlier than ever.

Choose Your Area Carefully

Chaweng is lively, Lamai is relaxed, Bophut is charming, Choeng Mon is polished, and Taling Ngam is secluded. Your area will define your trip.

Add a Boat Day

A private boat trip to Ang Thong National Marine Park is one of the best luxury experiences in Koh Samui and was also featured as part of the White Lotus Thailand setting.

Koh Samui has officially entered its luxury travel moment.

The White Lotus effect has turned the island into one of the most desirable destinations in Asia, but its appeal goes far beyond television. This is an island with genuine beauty, world-class resorts, warm Thai hospitality and a beach scene that can be as relaxed or as glamorous as you want it to be.

For luxury travellers, honeymooners and White Lotus fans, Koh Samui is now firmly on the must-visit list.
