Nestled on the southeastern coast of Phuket, Cape Panwa is a world away from the bustling beaches and party scenes you might typically associate with this Thai island. It's a hidden paradise that promises tranquillity, breathtaking views, and a slice of authentic Thai life that'll make you feel like you've stumbled upon your own private getaway.
The Journey Begins: Getting to Cape Panwa
Picture this: you're winding your way through lush tropical landscapes, leaving behind the crowds and chaos. As you approach Cape Panwa, the air seems to change – it's fresher, calmer, and filled with the promise of adventure and relaxation.
Pro tip: Grab yourself a scooter or hire a driver to make the most of the journey. The roads leading to Cape Panwa offer some seriously Instagram-worthy views, so don't forget to stop and snap a few pics along the way!
Cape Panwa Hotel: Your Gateway to Bliss
As you arrive at the Cape Panwa Hotel, perched majestically atop a hill, you'll feel like you've entered a different world. The hotel itself is a destination, with its blend of modern luxury and traditional Thai hospitality.
But here's where the real magic happens – hop aboard the hotel's charming Mercedes mini-tram (yes, you heard that right, a mini-tram!). This quaint little ride down the hill is your first taste of the whimsy and wonder that awaits you at magical Panwa House. (Big tip, make sure you arrive before dark to capture all the beautiful tropical scenery)

Unveiling the Star of the Show: Panwa House (The backdrop for White Lotus 3 Scenes)
A Cinematic Dream Come True
As you stroll along the pristine white sandy beach, surrounded by towering palm trees swaying in the gentle sea breeze, you'll spot it – Panwa House, standing proudly like a pearl against the azure sky. This isn't just any beachfront restaurant; it's a slice of living history and a favourite among filmmakers looking for that perfect, timeless Colonial setting.
Fun fact: Keep your eyes peeled, and you might recognise Panwa House from movies or TV shows you've watched and look out for it when White Lotus 3 hits the TV screens this year. It's a bona fide star in its own right!
Stepping Back in Time
Approaching Panwa House is like walking into a different era. This stunning white Sino-Portuguese mansion was once the residence of Thai aristocracy, and boy, does it show! The attention to detail in preserving its original charm is nothing short of impressive and it’s been restored to its former glory and converted to a fine-dining Thai restaurant.
As you enter, take a moment to soak it all in – the intricate tiles beneath your feet, the solid teak furniture inlaid with mother-of-pearl, the antique library cabinets that look like they hold a thousand stories. It's not just a restaurant; it's a living, breathing museum that happens to serve amazing food!
A Tale of Two Houses
One of the coolest features of Panwa House is its central staircase. It's not just any staircase – it seems to split the house into two separate indoor spaces, each with beautiful green doors and window shutters.
It's like getting two historic houses for the price of one!
Dining at Panwa House: A Feast for the Senses
Now, let's talk about the main event – the food! Panwa House isn't just a pretty face; it's a culinary destination that'll make your taste buds dance with joy. ( Our tip is to ask for a seat in the seafront courtyard so that you can take in the front architecture and sea views)
The Menu: A Journey Through Thai Flavors
Imagine settling into your seat, the sound of waves gently lapping at the shore, as you peruse a menu that reads like a love letter to Thai cuisine. From fragrant curries to zesty seafood dishes, each item promises a burst of authentic flavours that'll transport you straight to Flavour Town.
Our Must-try dishes:
Tom Yum Goong: A spicy and sour prawn soup that'll wake up every taste bud you have.
Massaman Curry: Creamy, rich, and utterly irresistible – this yellow curry is a hug in a bowl.
Pad Thai: Because you can't come to Thailand and not try this iconic noodle dish!
Each dish at Panwa House is not just a meal; it's a chapter in the rich culinary history of Phuket. The menu is a carefully curated selection that showcases the best of Thai cuisine, with a particular focus on local Phuket specialties.
Other Standout dishes include:
Phuket-style crab curry: A creamy, spicy delight that perfectly encapsulates the flavours of the region
Tom Yam Goong: The iconic Thai soup, made with locally sourced prawns for an extra fresh twist
Moo Hong: A Phuket specialty of slow-cooked pork belly in a sweet and savoury sauce
The best part is how reasonably priced all the food is for the stunning 5-star setting and service you get. Highly recommended for the white tablecloth experience, delicious food and amazing value. Each of the main dishes was between $8 - $15 USD. Such a bargain!
We were lucky enough to dine at the White Lotus season 2 restaurant in Taormina Sicily and you can bet that the prices there were very different!
A Romantic Setting Like No Other
As the sun begins to set, Panwa House transforms into one of the most romantic spots you'll ever dine in. Picture this: soft candlelight flickering on the tables, the gentle sea breeze rustling through the palm trees, and the sound of waves providing nature's own soundtrack. It's the kind of setting that makes you want to propose – even if you're already married!
Pro tip: Book a table for sunset. Trust us, you won't regret it!
Photography Paradise: Capturing Panwa House's Beauty
For photography enthusiasts, Panwa House is a dream come true. The stark white exterior against the vibrant blue sky and lush green palms creates a stunning contrast that's hard to resist. Whether you're an amateur with a smartphone or a pro with a DSLR, you'll find endless opportunities to capture that perfect shot.
Best times for photos:
Early morning: Catch the soft, golden light as it bathes the house
Sunset: The warm hues of the setting sun create a magical glow on the white façade
Night: When lit up, Panwa House takes on a whole new character, perfect for moody, atmospheric shots
Don't be surprised if you see fishing boats sailing by as you dine – it's all part of the authentic Cape Panwa experience!
We highly recommend a trip for Dinner here as it’s such an idyllic step back in time and will soon become a world-famous destination!
Touching the Sky at Baba Nest: Phuket's Most Exclusive Rooftop Bar
Another famous spot to visit if you are in the Cape Panwa area is the Instafamous Baba Nest bar at the Sri Panwa Hotel!
If you are in the area for another sunset, we highly recommend having sunset cocktails at the Baba Nest.
A Heavenly Perch in Paradise
Imagine sipping a cocktail while floating on a magic carpet high above the Andaman Sea, with 360-degree views of Phuket's stunning coastline.
Perched atop the ultra-luxurious Sri Panwa resort in Phuket, Baba Nest isn't just a bar – it's an experience that will leave you breathless (and not just because of the altitude). This exclusive rooftop wonder has been turning heads and dropping jaws since its opening, and it's easy to see why.
As you make your way to Baba Nest, the excitement starts to build. The lush tropical surroundings of Sri Panwa give way to sleek, modern architecture as you ascend. With each step, the views become more spectacular, hinting at the visual feast that awaits.

A Floating Oasis
As you step onto Baba Nest's deck, you might feel a moment of vertigo – in the best possible way. The wrap-around infinity pool creates an illusion of endlessness, blurring the lines between the deck and the horizon. It's like you're walking on water, suspended in the sky.
Fun fact: The deck is actually a repurposed helipad. Talk about an upgrade!

Insider tip: The corner spots offer the most unobstructed views, perfect for those Instagram-worthy shots.
Sunset Spectacle: Nature's Daily Show
If there's one thing that Baba Nest is famous for (besides its unique setting), it's the sunsets. As the day winds down, the sky becomes a canvas of oranges, pinks, and purples, reflecting off the infinity pool and creating a mesmerising display of colours.
It's not uncommon to hear a collective gasp from the guests as the sun dips below the horizon. Trust us, no filter can do justice to this natural spectacle.

Where we chose to stay at Cape Panwa.
Although Panwa House is located within the Cape Panwa Hotel, we chose to stay next door at the Stunning Amatara Well leisure resort! Highly recommended and the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of Phuket’s popular Western Beaches. It’s the luxurious way to enjoy the best of this hidden corner of Phuket. There’s a separate blog on that one that goes into great detail about the hotel.
